Surveys

The Backbone Collective is the first and only organisation to monitor the effectiveness of the system through the eyes of women and children escaping violence. Backbone surveys hundreds of women via its safe and confidential online platform, so we are able to gather extensive amounts of information on many issues for relatively low cost.

Women see the Backbone surveys as a powerful way to have their views taken into account and put forward to promote change.

Barriers to children accessing counselling and other therapeutic services

  • The Backbone Collective Auckland New Zealand (map)

Have your tamariki or child/ren been prevented, stopped or discouraged from attending, by any person, organisation or court, counselling or any other therapeutic service designed to help them recover from family violence and/or sexual violence and abuse?

Backbone’s latest anonymous questionnaire will help inform our advocacy to lower the barriers to children accessing counselling (whether online or in person) and other therapeutic services such as play therapy, art therapy, psychotherapy, group support, healing programmes, rongoā Māori and other kaupapa Māori healing approaches.

We also want to know more about therapeutic services requiring consent from both parents before working with tamariki/children and how this impacts children's safety and recovery.

The questionnaire closes 27 July 2025
